Happy Birthday to Ron! Ron Hornaday Wins Truck Series Race at Milwaukee Mile

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
It's just what I wanted!

It's just what I wanted!

Ron Hornaday didn’t get want he wanted for his birthday today apparently, so he went out and got himself exactly what he wanted: a win in the Truck Series at the Milwaukee Mile. Hornaday dominated the race, leading 180 of 200 laps. No one had anything for him.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Dennis Setzer, Brian Scott, Todd Bodine, James Buescher, Stacy Compton, Tayler Malsam, Colin Braun, David Starr and Terry Cook.

Brains and Braun: Colin Braun Wins Truck Series Race at Michigan

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Doing Texas proud.

Doing Texas proud.

Colin Braun wins the Michigan 200 Truck Series race at Michigan. Kyle Busch dominated much of the race, but clean air was the key and when Kyle Busch got caught behind a lead-lap car towards the end, that was enough to let Colin Braun get around him to pick up the win.

This is Braun’s first win in NASCAR, Ford’s first win in the Truck Series this season (and first since Erik Darnell won this race last year) and the first Texan to win in the Truck Series since David Starr back in 2006.

Behind Braun and Busch, you had Brian Ickler in third, Matt Crafton in fourth and Mike Skinner in fifth.

When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death; and when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again...wait, why are they spelling it with a Z?

Life of Brian: Brian Scott Wins the AAA Insurance 200 Truck Series Race at Dover

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

And not one single lazy Great Scott joke.

And not one single lazy Great Scott joke.

Brian Scott wins the AAA Insurance 200 Camping World Truck Series race at Dover. However, the real story was the power and efficiency in the failure rate of front right tires: failure so massive and pervasive that hack writers could consider comparing it to Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812. (Ironically, you could easily use Tchaikovsky’s commemorative overture in montages of both failures.)

Too obtuse?

The tire failures ultimately sunk the chances of Ron Hornaday early and Kyle Busch and Colin Braun late.

Deja vu.

Deja vu.

Are you sick of rain in the Truck Series? Yeah, me too. We got over a dozen qualifying runs in before we had a significant enough rain shower that ended up washing out qualifying again. So, once again, owners points will set the field. Kyle Busch is on the pole again, followed by Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday, Todd Bodine, Matt Crafton, Johnny Benson, Brian Scott, Chad McCumbee, Terry Cook and Stacy Compton.

The Replacements: Who Takes Over for Jeremy Mayfield?

Monday, May 11th, 2009
Your face here. Anyone? Bueller?

Your face here. Anyone? Bueller?

Well, we’re starting to move on from the whole Jeremy Mayfield saga a bit. We’ve cycled through the five stages of the Kübler-Ross Model, we’re at acceptance and now we’re thinking about what will happen to the 41 car. From what is left of Mayfield Motorsports, they are saying that they plan to soldier on. But with Mayfield suspended as both a driver and an owner, they need to find a replacement for both to be able to continue…and they need to find one soon.

NASCAR 2009 All-Star Race Logo

This has been a rough few weeks for the NASCAR family: first we lost David Poole, then we lost Kevin Grubb and then Jeremy Mayfield was suspended for violating the substance abuse policy. So, it’s nice to come off of that and have a week that is strictly all about fun. It’s a home exhibition game for the NASCAR family: All-Star Weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

However, NASCAR’s definition of fun entails all sorts of rules and regulations, pursuant to NASCAR Rulebook Section 13-7-J, “Regulation of Mirth and Merriment,” which requires that fun be “distilled” down to a format that only an mid-level IRS bureaucrat could love. But we fight the power and explain everything to you so you’re prepared for this weekend’s festivities.

2009 Samsung 500 Starting Lineup at Texas Motor Speedway

The Aaron's Dream Machine is on the pole but "luck" didn't factor into it.

The Aaron's Dream Machine is on the pole but "luck" didn't factor into it.

Qualifying is over for the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway and it’s David Reutimann who’s on the pole. I guess he finally got tired of people insisting that he was quietly having a good season.

And that’s not the only surprise. Not by a long shot.

Mark Martin, continues to fear not the owners points bubble, qualifies on the pole.

Mark Martin, continues to fear not the owners points bubble, qualifies on the pole.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Mark Martin is on the pole.

Yes, he was just on the pole at Atlanta two weeks ago. He stared into the abyss of the owners points bubble and just laughed. “You kids and your MTV and your rap music and your…Nutrigrain bars,” he allegedly did not say at all. “This is what I think of your owners points bubble,” and then he didn’t laugh maniacally or shake his cane.
