J.J. Yeley to Fill in for Jeremy Mayfield, Shana Mayfield to Be Owner of Record
Yes, it's official this time.
J.J. Yeley will be taking over for the suspended Jeremy Mayfield in the 41 car starting in this weekend’s Sprint Showdown at Charlotte. This ends a full day of “is he or isn’t he?” speculation caused by an early announcement followed by a public retraction that Yeley would be the new Mayfield Motorsports driver and officially intersects two stories we’ve been following closely: the suspension of Jeremy Mayfield and watching the return of J.J. Yeley’s soul patch. My guess is that it was basically a done deal, but the contract terms might not have been worked out yet, hence the backtracking. Also announced is that Shana Mayfield will be put down as the owner of record, which is interesting, but still one of the two guesses I made on that yesterday.
